Market Scanner is operated by James Lewis ("we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us about using the site.
By creating an account or otherwise using Market Scanner, you agree to these Terms & Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement to create an account. The service isn't intended for children.
Market Scanner is a research tool. It scans a set of US stocks and cryptocurrencies and scores them with a rule-based mix of technical indicators and news sentiment. It can read summaries aloud, send optional browser notifications when strong signals appear, and lets you place simulated (paper) trades through your own Alpaca paper-trading account. Text-message stock alerts are currently paused.
Nothing on this site — scores, tags, alerts, summaries or anything else — is investment advice, a recommendation, or an offer to buy or sell any security or asset. We are not a broker-dealer, investment adviser or financial planner. The scoring rules are a heuristic and have not been validated or backtested against real market outcomes, and past performance doesn't predict future results. You are solely responsible for your own financial decisions, and you should consult a licensed professional before acting on anything you see here.
Prices, news and other data come from third parties (including Alpaca and Yahoo Finance). They may be delayed, incomplete or wrong, and we can't guarantee their accuracy or availability.
Give accurate information, keep your password private, and let us know if you think someone else has accessed your account. You're responsible for activity under your account. One person per account.
Trades go only to your own Alpaca paper-trading account and use simulated money, not real funds. We never place a trade unless you click to submit or approve it and confirm. Your use of Alpaca is also governed by Alpaca's own terms. You can remove your saved Alpaca keys at any time on the Account page.
We text one-time verification codes when you sign up or reset your password. Stock and crypto alert texts are paused and aren't being sent. Reply STOP to opt out of our texts or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply, and carriers don't guarantee delivery.
Alert notifications are optional and you can turn them off at any time. They're for research only, aren't investment advice, and may be delayed, bundled or not delivered at all. Don't rely on them for time-sensitive decisions.
Market Scanner is free. There are no purchases, subscriptions or fees, so there is nothing to refund. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll publish their prices and refund terms before charging anything.
Please don't misuse the service. That means don't try to break into accounts or systems, overload the site, scrape or resell its data, get around rate limits or security, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend or close accounts that do.
Market Scanner is built with open-source fonts, icons and code, used under their licences. See the credits and licences.
The site relies on services run by other companies (see the Privacy Policy). We aren't responsible for their content, availability or practices.
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, timeliness, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. Scores and alerts may contain errors or fail to appear.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any financial loss, missed opportunity, lost data, or indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service or any decision you make based on it. Because the service is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to $0, or the lowest amount the law allows.
You can stop using the service at any time and delete your account yourself from the Account page (see the Privacy Policy). We may change, suspend or discontinue the service, or your access to it, at any time.
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new "last updated" date. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
